This holiday season, Bloō Dental advises not to risk the health of your teeth.
"If you don't properly clean your teeth, the results might be cavities, gum disease and possible tooth loss," states Dr. Haress Rahim, director of Bloo Dental.
Teeth are covered with a sticky film of bacteria called plaque. Following a meal or snack, the bacteria release acids that attack tooth enamel. Repeated attacks can cause the enamel to break down, eventually resulting in cavities. Plaque that is not removed with thorough daily brushing and cleaning between teeth can eventually harden into calculus or tartar.
"Too much snacking and poor dental care can increase the development of plaque and the likelihood of tooth decay," explains Dr. Rahim.
To avoid the risk of tooth decay, Dr. Rahim recommends:
- Avoiding hard candy and sticky sweets that can get stuck to your teeth and stay in your mouth for a long time - providing a feeding ground for bacteria and production of plaque.
- Consuming sweet treats with meals when the mouth releases more saliva to help neutralize acids produced by bacteria in your mouth and helps rinse away food particles.
- Eating more healthy snakes such as fruit, nuts and low-fat cheese.
- Brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
- Cleaning between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner.
- Eating a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks.
- Visiting your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.
- Asking your dentist about dental sealants, a protective plastic coating that can be applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth where decay often starts.

After months and months of choosing the right fabric and furniture, placing the entertainment center in the right corner and choosing the perfect chaise, you’ve finally completed designing your dream home. Only one problem, the walls are bare.
If you’re an artist, choosing art for your home is easy, but since most of us are not, this can prove to be difficult. Here are a few tips on making sure that choosing the art on your walls turns out to be a masterpiece more than a mess-terpiece.
Discover Your Personal Style
Many of us have never thought about what our personal art style is. Some homes have a classical feel while others prefer a modern look; it’s important to find what you like. One idea is to take a few hours and treat yourself to an afternoon at a museum that incorporates all art styles. Chances are, you’ll find a piece or an artist that you like and the museum gift shop is a great place to find prints that you can have framed. Buying prints are a great way to incorporate great works of art into your living space and finding the right frame can pull a room together.
Don’t Be Afraid of Color
Chances are, when you’ve redesigned your apartment or condo, you kept your walls white or a similar shade, meaning your artwork will add color to any room. Don’t be afraid to experiment with color. Whether it’s a creating your own do-it-yourself piece or splashing an accent wall, color can instantly brighten up a room or make a smaller room look larger.
Relocation is Key!
So you’ve found your perfect piece of art but it just doesn’t look right on the wall you’ve chosen. It’s okay to move your pieces around. What doesn’t look right in your living room might be perfect in the dining room, switch it up! The lighting in your home will most likely vary from room to room, making each piece look different.
Bringing artwork into a home can be a tedious project if you don’t know where to start. So take a good friend and a camera and start walking around, you never know where you’ll find your signature piece!

The couple opened Edible Arrangements in Brambleton three years ago. It is the only Loudoun franchise for this unique business that features highly creative, colorful—and delicious—fresh fruit arrangements and baskets. The Fishers own the business with co-owner, Anh Do Quy, and Dan manages the store. Serving customers seven days a week, Edible Arrangements takes to the road with corporate and residential deliveries, as well as serving customers with its delicious fresh orders at churches and schools.
The success of their first venture spurred on Diane Fisher's next business venture in Brambleton's Town Center. This past summer, she took the major step of relocating her Eclips Salon and Day Spa from Ashburn to a large and attractively decorated corner location at the retail center across from Harris Teeter. In January, Fisher will relocate her Eclips Kids salon to Brambleton as well. In addition to stylish cuts, the salon will feature movies, hair products and accessories designed for children.
“This is a good location for us,” Fisher said, noting the ongoing activity and busy foot traffic that Brambleton has created at its thriving town center.
The entrepreneurial retailer has been involved in management and ownership of salons for years. Fisher, a Purcellville resident, is well-versed in what it takes to keep a salon thriving, her staff happy in their jobs, and clients returning for cuts, a wide variety of hair treatments, and visits to Eclips' two spacious and well-appointed spa rooms.
At the Nov. 5 Eclips grand opening in Brambleton, she kept an eye on the trendy hair fashion show staged by her stylists and their models while booking a walk-in client's appointment at the front counter. General manager Cindy Dean stepped in to help arrange the appointment. Fisher glanced over at her son, Adrian Dillenseger, Eclips' chief financial officer, and her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Dillenseger, the shop's manager. “I keep saying I'm going to take time off soon,” she said, flashing a smile.

With over 3000 attendees, the Brambleton Fall Festival is the biggest festival in the community to date. And as the community continues to grow each year, the festival will naturally follow suit, offering even bigger and better entertainment options for the whole family to enjoy. More carnival rides and climbing apparatuses were added this year to appeal to the older kids. At the same time, there were plenty of things for the younger ones to enjoy like the pirate ship, dragon ride, and inflatables.
The Step Sisters ran the spooky train ride through Legacy Park, enlisting some Briar Woods High School students to help run around the park in scary costumes while the train passed by. Along Brambleton Plaza, Marketplace vendors set up shop, selling jewelry, cupcakes, childrens' wear, and other various services. Sponsors Majest Martial Arts set up a demo, allowing children to break wooden boards and C3 Cyber Club set up popular Wii and Xbox360 games. Brambleton tenant, Misguided Angels, lured the crowd with their shoe blowout sidewalk sale, and the very first Brambleton Geocache event was held during the festival.
The food vendors were pleased with the event, some even running out of food by the end of the day. As the vendors began shutting down, the remaining attendees were lured to the beer garden as rock cover band, Road Soda, played into the night.
A special thanks to all our sponsors, event chairs Maribeth Linmore and Lynn Brizzi and numerous resident volunteers for their support in the Fall Festival's success!

The southeastern Loudoun community of Brambleton recently took top honors at the prestigious Great American Living Awards (GALA) when the master-planned development won the Planned Community of the Year award for the fifth consecutive year, as well as two other awards.
Judges look for special features, land planning and landscape, amenities and open space, and may look at marketing components, in arriving at a decision on the winner for the highest honor of this annual competition.
Brambleton also captured the Best Sales Office Award for the design of its Builder Showcase and Welcome Center, which features its home builders and interactive displays of community living. An award of merit was also bestowed upon Brambleton, the nation's first verizon-enhanced fiber optic community, for its online advertising campaign by Delucchi Plus.
The annual recognition event for the building industry was held Oct. 21 in Fairfax and sponsored by the Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association, the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, and the Washington Metropolitan Sales & Marketing Council. Judged by a large panel of professionals in the industry, the GALA competition is considered the most prestigious residential design, sales, and marketing event of its type in the Washington, DC metro area.
The GALA honors are among numerous awards taken by Brambleton, which also earned the Excellence in Construction honors from the Metropolitan Washington and Virginia Chapters of the Associated Builders and Contractors, the MAME awards (Major Achievement in Marketing Excellence) and the PLANET tribute for comprehensive landscape design.

Whether you’re looking to upgrade your living space or you’ve just purchased a new home, you might want to invest in some furniture and interior details to give your space some life and make it yours. And when we say “invest,” we don’t necessarily mean money. If you want to save your cash, or you just don’t have the budget, you can still make your home look good, but you will have to be patient and occupy some time doing a little research.
Let’s go through some tips to help you along the way:
Inspiration. Our first suggestion would be to get inspired and have a vision for your rooms ready. There are plenty sources of inspiration on the web these days for decorating your interior. Blogs with reader submissions of decorating and remodeling projects are really great, and Design*Sponge features these weekly. Another great source is Apartment Therapy, which has a plethora of stories and examples of decorating your home on a budget.
Prioritize. You don’t have to do everything at once. Plan out which rooms are really eating at you and tackle them first. If you don’t have the resources to do every room in a short span of time, make a priority list of rooms or furniture and go from there. Another aspect you should decide on is value. You might get a longer life out of a new piece that costs more rather than a bargain that’s already seen its fair share of days.
Actually set a budget. Don’t just set out with the intentions of spending the least amount of money. Set a budget and stick to it. This way you’ll know what you’ve allocated and what’s left of it. You may come in under your budget and decide to splurge a little, or you might have to cut back and prioritize further. Either way, budgeting is a fun way to see what you can do with a certain allotment.
Bargain hunting. Online or offline, there are plenty of sources for a bargain home decorator. Online, places like CraigsList, eBay and Freecycle offer a wide range of free or cheap options to give your home some character. Offline there are thrift stores, yard sales and furniture outlets. One positive feature of buying offline is that you can see what you’re really getting, but don’t let that limit you from discovering some great finds online as well.
Accessorize. Getting some new accessories to complement your home is a great way to give it a much needed facelift. Things like curtains, rugs, pillows, wall art, dishes or utensils – the possibilities really are endless. This could even include a fresh coat of paint or new pattern on your walls. Sometimes the little things go a long way.
Brambleton is a unique community in Northern Virginia that offers just that: community. Brambleton provides a town center for great entertainment, shopping and dining, as well as a welcoming environment for every resident to enjoy.

Befriending the Elderly
Children aren’t the only group in your community who could use a friend. Nursing homes often enlist the help of outside volunteers to play games, watch TV, read, or simply sit and speak with their residents. Many of the residents of these communities don’t have family or friends in the vicinity so they long for the chance to connect with someone outside of the nursing home. A good place to start is to contact your local nursing home’s recreation department to determine if they have a need for help.
Helping Those Less Fortunate
Due to the current economic conditions in the U.S. the number of people in need of assistance is on the rise. Many Americans have lost their jobs, homes and families. There are a number of organizations around the country that are dedicated to getting people back on their feet and they are always in need of an extra pair of hands. From helping collect clothing, to cooking and delivering hot meals, there are a number of ways to lend your support.
Lift Someone’s Spirits
If you’ve ever spent an extended period of time in a hospital, you know how isolating it can be; trapped in bed day in and day out without much contact with the outside world. Spending an hour with someone in the hospital can brighten their day and alleviate their feelings of loneliness. If you are interested in donating some of your time at a local hospital, simply call them up and they can direct you to the correct department.
Once you’ve found the organization that works best for you, be realistic and don’t over commit. If you can only devote an hour a week, let them know. This way, everyone’s time is optimized and no one is left disappointed!
Purchasing your new home or condo in Brambleton will open the doors to a wide range of community activities at which volunteers are needed. Just contact the Brambleton Community Association to find out how you can contribute or Volunteer Loudoun. Brambleton is a master planned community located near Ashburn in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington, DC.

In case you're not familiar with Geocaching, this high-tech treasure hunting game uses GPS devices and now has an estimated four to five million enthusiasts of all ages all over the world. Based on the premise of locating hidden containers (geocaches) in your own community and then sharing your experiences electronically, participants find themselves on a treasure hunt utilizing latitude and longitude coordinates.
Besides a sense of fun and adventure, participants will need a GPS unit, or a Geocaching application on a smart phone (however a GPS is more accurate). Instructions for Brambleton's Geocaching event can be found on the Brambleton website, www.brambleton.com/towncenter or on the Geocaching site http://goo.gl/LunF.
Fall Festival activities for all ages begin at the Brambleton Town Center at 1 p.m. and last until the band, Road Soda, performs from 6 to 8 p.m. on the main stage. Affordable elegance in Northern Virginia is not an oxymoron, and the new Misguided Angels boutique in the Brambleton Town Center is setting out to prove just that! Owners Kim Hutchings and Carol White strive to find women’s clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories from up-and-coming designers that are fun and fabulous, and that won’t break the bank. Their unique finds will keep your weekend-wear wardrobe fresh and exciting!
These fashionistas have had the passion for fashion since they were children playing with Barbies! Their successful business partnership is built upon Kim’s degree in fashion merchandising with retail sales and management careers and Carol’s creativity, imagination and experience in visual merchandising. (Making use of that creative gene, Carol even designs clothes, jewelry and decorative accessories in her spare time). They make a great team and have a lot of fun working together.
Kim and Carol met in 1994 when both were very successful managers for Victoria’s Secret. They came up with the name “Misguided Angels” as a tribute to their Victoria’s Secret days and the well known VS “Angels” collection… they always thought of themselves more as playfully deviant than angelic! Afterall, they were never ones to necessarily follow the rules. The name “Misguided Angels” also has special meaning for Kim, as that was the name of the song played during the first dance at her wedding!
Kim and Carol are excited for their store to open and share their fashion obsessions with you (especially their shoe obsessions)! They’ve been busy attending shows and searching for the perfect fall collection. “We think we have a little something to appeal to everyone. We are so excited, and hope that we will provide not just unique women’s apparel, but a unique and fun shopping experience as well!” Their store will be located in the Brambleton Town Center at 22855 Brambleton Plaza, # 105, between Color Me Mine and Edibles Incredible! Become a fan on Facebook to view more photos and updates on the store’s opening.
