Dentist Haress Rahim, DMD recently opened his practice, Bloō Dental, featuring early morning and later evening hours, to fit the schedules of busy families. Dr. Rahim's love of the water and affection for the color blue led to both the name of his practice (bloõ being the pronunciation of the word “blue”) and the architectural design of the space. “The name and logo for our practice has certainly been a great conversation piece,” Dr. Rahim said.

Sedation dentistry, low-radiation digital x-rays, a children's play area, and an Internet cafe in the reception area are also among the features of the practice.

Named to America's Top Dentists by the Consumers Research Council of America, Dr. Rahim is a Brambleton resident and also serves as a volunteer with the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic. Brambleton and HLS Take Steps to Help the Chesapeake Bay

According to the Chesapeake Bay Program partnership, 30-percent of phosphorous nutrients found in the Chesapeake Bay come from fertilizers and eroding sediment from stream banks in urban and suburban areas. Brambleton and Heritage Landscape Services are taking steps to reduce the amount of phosphorous that enters into the Bay and local tributaries by eliminating the application of phosphorous-based fertilizers on all common areas throughout Brambleton.

Brambleton Community Association, Brambleton Town Center, Summerfield and the Residences, through their various partnerships with Heritage Landscape Services are using semi-organic turf fertilizers, as well as using them during the proper times of year. These are applied in common areas and right-of-ways throughout the community. Benefits will include a reduction of phosphorous into the bay, improve quality and hardiness of turf grass, and build a stronger root system, counting on natural organics to aid in health and growth. These characteristics will add to the long-term health of your yard, the community and the Chesapeake Bay region.

The state of Virginia has passed a ban on all phosphorous based fertilizers, effective 2011. Our landscape management company, Heritage Landscape Services (HLS) has discontinued use of phosphorous based fertilizers three years before the deadline set by the state of Virginia. HLS should be commended for taking a proactive approach towards the betterment of the environment.

Associations throughout the region and country are considering banning the use of phosphorous applied on residential properties, and working with the landscape industry to find cost effective, environmentally friendly ways of satisfying the need for weed-free, lush common area turf. The Association encourages all residents to consider taking steps to eliminate or reduce phosphorous based fertilizers on their property in 2010. Alternative means are available at most garden centers and large home stores. Please always follow package directions when using these products.

We are confident that the long-term positive effects for the community and environment, along with the satisfaction of responsible stewardship for the land will outweigh the increase in cost of the alternative products, creating a benefit to be shared for generations to come.
