Misguided Angels: A Fresh New Shopping Choice!

Affordable elegance in Northern Virginia is not an oxymoron, and the new Misguided Angels boutique in the Brambleton Town Center is setting out to prove just that! Owners Kim Hutchings and Carol White strive to find women’s clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories from up-and-coming designers that are fun and fabulous, and that won’t break the bank. Their unique finds will keep your weekend-wear wardrobe fresh and exciting!

These fashionistas have had the passion for fashion since they were children playing with Barbies! Their successful business partnership is built upon Kim’s degree in fashion merchandising with retail sales and management careers and Carol’s creativity, imagination and experience in visual merchandising. (Making use of that creative gene, Carol even designs clothes, jewelry and decorative accessories in her spare time). They make a great team and have a lot of fun working together.

Kim and Carol met in 1994 when both were very successful managers for Victoria’s Secret. They came up with the name “Misguided Angels” as a tribute to their Victoria’s Secret days and the well known VS “Angels” collection… they always thought of themselves more as playfully deviant than angelic! Afterall, they were never ones to necessarily follow the rules. The name “Misguided Angels” also has special meaning for Kim, as that was the name of the song played during the first dance at her wedding!

Kim and Carol are excited for their store to open and share their fashion obsessions with you (especially their shoe obsessions)! They’ve been busy attending shows and searching for the perfect fall collection. “We think we have a little something to appeal to everyone. We are so excited, and hope that we will provide not just unique women’s apparel, but a unique and fun shopping experience as well!” Their store will be located in the Brambleton Town Center at 22855 Brambleton Plaza, # 105, between Color Me Mine and Edibles Incredible! Become a fan on Facebook to view more photos and updates on the store’s opening.

Smile More, Live Longer

There is a new reason to smile more: longevity. Researchers at Wayne State University found that people who smile more often live longer than those who don’t, according to a recent study published in Psychological Science.

“This study is no surprise,” says Dr. Haress Rahim, director of Bloo Dental in Brambleton. “The mental and physical benefits of smiling have been well documented.”

In the Wayne State study, researchers compared photos of 230 professional baseball players who started their careers before 1950 and found that those who smiled most intensely lived an average of seven years longer than those who weren’t smiling at all.

An earlier study by researchers at DePauw University found people with broad smiles in childhood photos and college yearbooks had more stable and satisfying marriages and were less likely to divorce.

Smiling has been linked to less stress, an improved immune system and lower blood pressure. Individuals who smile have also been shown to attract more friends and to be more successful in school and work.

“If someone has unhealthy teeth and gums, they are far less likely to smile and much more likely to have other underlying health problems,” commented Dr. Rahim.

A key part of achieving and maintaining a healthy smile is good dental care including flossing and brushing daily as well as routine dental exams and cleanings.

To schedule an appointment with Bloo Dental, call (703) 327-5533. Additional information about the practice is also available at online.

You are our star hero this summer!

Dear Regal Fox Stadium 16 Customers,

We’ve seen a lot of action heroes come through our doors this summer, from Woody and Buzz to B.A. Baracus and Jonah Hex to Shrek and Donkey, but, believe it or not, our favorite hero is probably the one you haven’t heard too much about: you!

Thanks to your extraordinary generosity, this theater alone was able to raise $13,457 for The Regal Foundation’s “Stars of Hope” campaign. Nationally, the “Stars of Hope” campaign raised over $4 million, which The Regal Foundation will distribute to a host of worthy charities that it partners with. The Regal Foundation is also in the very top echelon of charities, with over 99 cents of every dollar donated going directly to a partner charity.

No matter what amount you donated, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts! From the Twilight theater that donated $280 all on its own during the midnight show to the woman who gave us the last pennies of cash that she had to her name, you have truly amazed us. The smiling children proudly waving their dollars in the air, the quietly donated big bills, the group that suggested writing the names of loved ones with cancer and other illnesses on their stars have all made this a truly beautiful experience. Your generosity has moved us, and we are honored to have participated in this campaign with you. Whether your donation was large or small, you have made a difference in the life of your fellow man, and, for that, we cannot thank you enough.

You are our star hero this summer!

Sincerely,
The Regal Fox Stadium 16 Staff

BWHS Marching Band Will Fly to London to Eantertain the World

by Dan Kirkby, Kirkby Monahan Publicity

The Briar Woods High School Falcon Regiment is set to become a global sensation flying to London to star in one of the world’s greatest street spectaculars – The New Year’s Day Parade in London.

The band has been selected from hundreds of hopefuls to make the momentous Trans-Atlantic trip at the turn of the year and feature in the historic 25th Anniversary parade.

Band Director Duane Minnick travelled to the UK capital last week to finalize arrangements and meet former Lord Mayor of Westminster, Deputy Lieutenant and Parade Goodwill Ambassador, Councilor Robert Davis DL.

The 2010 parade was featured on more than 500 stations worldwide attracting huge critical acclaim and a massive audience.

“It is wonderful to give the World a window to our traditional pageant,” said Executive Director Bob Bone.

“And I am delighted that these talented young people will feature to the full. They come highly recommended with our
International Selection Panel singing their praises.”

More than 8,000 performers from a number of nations will gather in London to create a fitting high point to the traditional turn of the year celebrations.

Around 520,000 spectators packed the center of London on January 1st to marvel at this year’s event – and even more are expected for the musical ‘milestone’ spectacular marking the arrival of 2011.

The historic route passes some of London’s finest iconic sites including The Ritz Hotel, Piccadilly Circus, The National Gallery, Trafalgar Sq, Downing St, The Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey.
