Brambleton Recreation

Brambleton | Recreation
It’s the start of a new year, and that means resolutions of varying degrees abound. Among the most popular: to get in shape. Despite Loudoun County’s relaxed pace, you’ll find exhilarating and unique recreational activities around every corner. With 517 square miles of rolling hills, riverfront access, and public parks, opportunities to get your heart rate up are in no short supply.

Loudoun County has miles of quiet, rural roads for bicycling. But if you want to stay off the public roads there are other opportunities as well, the most notable of which is the Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) Railroad Regional ParkA very popular trail among visitors and residents alike, the entire trail is 45 miles long, and paved with nine foot wide asphalt. There is also a horse trail which runs parallel along much of the trail. If biking the entire trail seems a bit daunting, consider breaking the ride into two days. There are numerous hotels and Bed and Breakfasts along the trail.

Not Your Typical Workout
Jumping, dodging, and evading an opponent? Those probably aren’t the first things to come to mind when thinking about getting in shape, but Hogback Mountain Paintball is definitely an exciting way to get your heart rate up. Their mission is to provide a thrilling experience for players of all skill levels in a fun and safe environment. Players of any skill level, over the age of 10, are welcome to attend Saturday and Sunday “walk on” events. Their beautiful site consists of over 70 acres and 14 unique courses. The fields are designed for both recreational and pro-players alike. Paintball is an experience that is exhilarating each and every time.

Get Motivated
A great way to find motivation to keep your workout going is to sign up for a race. This not only encourages you to continue working towards a goal, but provides ample satisfaction once you’ve completed it. The 5th annual Brambleton Ribbon Run/Walk on Saturday, April 14, 2012 will bring an estimated 2,000 runners (and walkers) together from the Brambleton community and beyond. This community event benefits The Step Sisters’ fundraising efforts to fight breast cancer, and attracts all age groups, including families.  Children can even participate in the "Kids Fun Run.”  Finishing this run will feel great as you see all your hard work has paid off.
Don’t let this year’s resolutions fall by the wayside. With these exciting, motivational activities, you’re sure to lose a few pounds while having a good time too.
