Back to School in Loudoun County


The first day of school for Loudoun County Public Schools students is August 27th.  Take advantage of upcoming events to enjoy the last days of summer and send your students back-to-school prepared.


1. Back to School in Loudoun County

Brambleton invites the community to support the First Annual Brambleton Kids Triathlon at the Brambleton Community Center Pool on September 1, 2012. Presented by the Brambleton Community Association, the event will host approximately 160 young athletes in swimming, cycling and running races throughout the Brambleton community. The event is currently sold out for participation, but the Brambleton Community Association invites the community to volunteer their time during the event and support the young athletes.

When: September 1, 2012, 8am – 12pm
Cost: Participation is sold out, but volunteers are needed!


Bring a picnic and lawn chairs or a blanket, and enjoy Historic Leesburg's weekly summer concert series on the Town Hall Green. In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved inside the Town Hall. This event is family-friendly and is the perfect way to celebrate the last weekend of summer.

3. The Big Dig: Annual Pancake Breakfast and Potato Harvest

Start your day with pancakes hot off the griddle and topped with Great Country Farm's fruit butters or syrup. Juices and coffee included. After breakfast take a hayride to the u-pick potato patch to hunt for potato treasure. Potato Day activities include making a Potato Stamp Tee and trying out our Potato Gun. After you dig your potatoes, head to the Roosteraunt for a FREE potato chip tasting with Route 11 Chips. Then you can picnic around our featured tractors and antique fire trucks.

Brambleton to Hold First Annual Brambleton Kids Triathlon


Brambleton invites the community to support the First Annual Brambleton Kids Triathlon at the Brambleton Community Center Pool on September 1, 2012. Presented by the Brambleton Community Association, the event will host approximately 160 young athletes in swimming, cycling and running races throughout the Brambleton community. The races will be organized by age group, ranging from 5 to 14 years old, and will focus on individual performance, promoting fit and active lifestyles for the young athletes and their families. Proceeds will directly benefit the Special Olympics of Loudoun and their athletes will be in attendance to present finisher medals to the participants.

The event is currently sold out for participation, but the Brambleton Community Association invites the community to volunteer their time during the event and support the young athletes. Event details are as follows:

Hanson Park Design Concepts - The design team developed a strategy to prepare the master plan and incorporate input from county residents and community groups. To date, there have been three public input sessions where the design team met with the community to present ideas, solicit feedback, and incorporate shared concepts into evolving iterations of the master plan for the park. Totally 80's Sizzlin' Summer Concert - Come dressed in your best 80's attire at the next concert on Thursday, August 16th, featuring 80's band, The Reflex. Brambleton prize packs will be awarded to the best dressed adult and best dressed kid! The first 200 kids will receive free 80's fashioned sunglasses. This is a BYOB event, beer and wine only. ID's and coolers will be checked at the gate. The previously canceled Kelly Bell Band concert has been rescheduled for Thursday, August 23rd at 7:00 p.m.

Getting an education stands as the number one problem affecting homeless children, but our community can band together to provide the supplies they need to get an education every child deserves.

Brambleton’s Park & Ride Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - Supervisor Janet Clarke officially opened Brambleton’s Park & Ride at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday July 20th.  Bus service began Monday, July 23rd, to Rosslyn and Washington, DC.

Rail Bridges in Tysons Finished This Month - Hailed as a major milestone in the path toward a mid-summer 2013 construction completion of the long-awaited Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, the last span of concrete segments of the bridges for rail in Tysons Corner has been lowered into place by a 365-ton horizontal crane.  Go to www.dullesmetro.com for more information.
