Brambleton Development Proposals Find Support At Public Hearing

Following a public hearing Wednesday night, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors sent applications for additions to Brambleton to its land use committee for further review.

The panel will meet in mid-January to consider the requests, which include plans for 506 more homes, a library, a performing arts center and land for two new schools.

More than 8,500 homes are already approved for Brambleton, and the developers want to build 48 more townhouses in the Brambleton Town Center as well as 458 more homes in another part of the 2,800-acre development. Under the proposal, the developer also would provide sites for a middle school and a high school, build the library and convert a former dairy barn into a performing arts center.

Loudoun County nabs national wine tourism conference
The national Wine Tourism Conference will make its East Coast debut in Leesburg in 2015.
The four-year-old Wine Tourism Conference is expected to bring approximately 200 tourism and wine industry officials to the Lansdowne Resort and Conference Center in November of next year, according to Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Visit Loudoun, the county's tourism arm.

Bringing the conference to Loudoun County will require "monetary and in-kind investments" from Visit Loudoun, the Virginia Tourism Corp., and the Virginia Wine Board's marketing office. The total amount of money Virginia will put up for the conference is "to be determined," according to a Loudoun spokesperson.

Survey: Silver Line Station Names Should Be ‘Ashburn,’ ‘Broad Run’
The results are in, and the preferred names for the future Rt. 772 and Rt. 606 Silver Line Metro stations are “Ashburn” and “Broad Run.”
Loudoun County’s Board of Supervisors in October approved a list of potential station names, and then a survey was conducted to see which monikers the public liked best.

About 2,500 people participated in the survey, and 75 percent of respondents chose the name “Ashburn” over “Loudoun” and “Loudoun Gateway West” for the Rt. 772 station.
