Brambleton Sells 454 New Homes in 2011 Equaling a 29% Increase in Total Sales

Ringing in Hope Race Draws Large Crowd & Hope for Area Charities

January 2, 2012 – More than 2,000 participants took to the streets of Brambleton on the morning of New Year’s Eve in a race that helped to raise funding for participating area charities. The second annual Ringing In Hope Walk, Run & Fun (10K & 5K Race, 1K walk) winter race drew in more than double the crowd of its inaugural December 2010 race, starting at Brambleton Town Center in Brambleton, Va. The race kick off was signaled by the Hogettes and runners took off on a 5K or 10K course enjoying near record-high weather.

Joshua Hardin of Potomac Falls, VA, finished in first place for the men in the 10K, in at 33:32, along with Melissa Saunders for the women, also from Potomac Falls, at 41:00. Ry Hu of Ashburn, Va., took top honors for the men in the 5K in at 17:08, as did Amy Passauer of Ashburn, Va., for the women in at 20:22. In a post-race awards ceremony, awards were handed out to the top three overall male and female finishers in both races, as well as the top three finisher in each of the following categories: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 & over. In true Ringing In Hope style, racers enjoyed hors d'oeuvres served at finish line and 1K walkers received bells to ring in the new year. Children and their families joined in on the festivities enjoying family fun activities such as pony rides, a barrel train ride, face painting, tattoos, music, moonbounces, complementary family portraits and more.

This year’s race beneficiaries include: Loudoun Habitat for Humanity, Loudoun Interfaith Relief, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid Atlantic, La Voz of Loudoun, Life Line, Inc., Joshua’s Hands and Jill’s House. Upon registering for the races/walk, participants were given the opportunity to designate their race proceeds to the participating charity of their choice.

Back-to-Back State Titles for Briar Woods: The Briar Woods High School senior class found their football legs at the end of their sophomore season when the Falcons missed the playoffs but started clicking with three straight wins to end that year. Since then, Briar Woods has won 27 out of 30 contests, including back-to-back Dulles District and Region II titles and now back-to-back VHSL Division 4 state titles after Saturday's exciting 28-26 win over Christiansburg at Liberty University's Williams Stadium. A Day In The Life of A Brambleton Resident with Verizon FiOS

As a relative newcomer to Brambleton, you might wonder how I qualify to write an article about the 10th Anniversary of this unique community. My residency in Brambleton may be relatively short, but it’s been intense. I’ve enthusiastically immersed myself in all the community has to offer -- joining groups like the Events Committee and taking the opportunity to meet many of my fellow Brambleton residents.

Although my family and I have lived here for only one year now, over the past 10 years I’ve become well-versed in all things Brambleton. As a result of the long-running relationship this community has had with Verizon, whom I’ve worked for since 1999, I’ve gotten to know the community. As a member of the Verizon Enhanced Communities team responsible for supporting FiOS services and new applications development, I have had a frontline view of how Brambleton and Verizon FiOS have evolved together over the years.

Since its original inception, technology has been a central component of the Brambleton community vision. The decision to bring Verizon’s then newly-launched FiOS all-fiber-optic network to every home in the community and offer FiOS Internet and TV as a standard amenity to every resident, created a key strategic partnership for our company as well. This has positioned Brambleton to be one of the first to receive new cutting-edge Verizon services.

Going back through the Verizon news archives, I found a press release that originally announced the collaboration between Soave Real Estate and Verizon. Here is how Brambleton owner, Anthony L. Soave, put it:

“Partnering with Verizon has differentiated our community. We have been able to offer our homebuyers unparalleled high-tech services that most communities are simply not able to provide to their residents.

With telecommuting, home-based businesses and the need for lightning-fast Internet connections all on the increase, the products and services offered over Verizon’s fiber network will give our homeowners more free time to connect with family and friends and provide more leisure time for themselves.”

Looking back, residents today are clearly reaping the benefits of their founder’s foresight. Verizon’s all-fiber-optic FiOS network has been in place from the beginning, helping to support Brambleton’s incomparable sense of community and its exceptional variety of community-enhancing services. It’s what motivated my family to buy a home in Brambleton, and it is what keeps this community vibrant and growing.

Brambleton was the first Northern Virginia planned community in which fiber-optic cables were installed in each and every home, in anticipation of technological innovations to come. Since the initial Brambleton installation, many more services and features have been brought by Verizon to the Brambleton residents – upgrades have been made without having to install more equipment or change the network. This forward-looking approach allows my family and other Brambleton residents to live our lives more conveniently and to take full advantage of the hottest and coolest new services and features.

Similar to other residents in the community, I may at times work from home. I count on the reliability of the FiOS network so I can focus on what the workday holds for me, knowing it won’t be interrupted by weather-related disruptions or slow-downs on the network due to multiple users having to share bandwidth during the busiest times of the day, as I’ve suffered through in other non-fiber communities where I’ve lived.

Speaking of weather, if I do need to check the weather, news headlines and my horoscope, I turn to the convenience of the various widgets offered as part of my FiOS TV service. The YouTube, Facebook and Twitter widgets are a great way to keep up with Brambleton Marketing Coordinator, Stephanie Lee’s frequent tweets and updates about the community. If my family and I want to go out to lunch or dinner or just grab a snack, I can log into my Verizon account and check the Verizon Perks website for coupons to several of the Town Center businesses. If I am waiting in the doctor’s office or just waiting while my kids play at Legacy Park, I can watch movies I’ve purchased with Verizon FiOS Flex View. I can rent or purchase movies, and they are available to me on whatever device I have on hand, be it TV, PC, tablet, or compatible smartphone. I can use my FiOS service almost anywhere! With Internet access, I can also log in to one of many online channels to watch my favorite shows at no extra charge. But not when I’m working, of course.

In our downtime, my family and I like to watch shows on our TV from the Verizon On-Demand library. With two young kids, most of what we watch falls under the genre of children’s shows. I have watched the On-Demand library expand over the years to where it is today – over 30,000 titles and still growing. Brambleton is a family-oriented community with many children, so I’m sure this feature is utilized by many.

I want to be connected not only when I’m in Brambleton but anywhere I go, and Verizon FiOS allows me to do that. As I mentioned, I can watch movies on my tablet or smartphone anywhere at any time. I can also program my DVR from anywhere, so if I’m traveling on business and forget to record a show I’d otherwise miss, I can easily program the DVR myself without bothering my husband or son to enter it for me. If I happen to misplace the TV remote (a common occurrence with two kids), I can turn my compatible smartphone into a remote and change channels that way. These apps are currently available for download at no additional cost.

Finally, while I may not be the most eco-conscious person on the planet, I like the fact that Brambleton allows and encourages me to improve that part of my life. Through the Brambleton partnership with Recyclebank, I can do my small part to be a better steward of the environment. As a bonus, I get reward points for doing so, redeemable for local discounts or services.

This year, Brambleton also introduced a community garden. I did not participate this year, but I am looking forward to next year’s growing season so I can teach my kids how to raise our own healthy food. Being from Indiana, we always had fresh vegetables from our garden. By participating in this program, it will get me back to my roots, if you’ll pardon the pun. And thanks to our FiOS Internet, after a day working in the garden, my kids will be able to share the experience with their grandparents back in Indiana, sending them photos and HD home videos. The whole extended family, near and far, can share in the experience with my kids.

As a busy working mother, my schedule can be hectic as I try to attend to various home, family and work obligations. Sometimes my time and attention can be stretched to the limit. Any technology that helps me manage my life better, without complicated set-up required, is very attractive. So I am very excited about a new service Verizon is launching called Verizon Home Monitoring and Control. Unlike some DIY monitor and control component services available on the market, it will painlessly integrate a full range of networked devices like thermostats and cameras into an easy-to-use online service that gives you access and control almost anytime and anywhere you want. (Two options for install will be offered, either self-install or referral to a local installation expert).

Using this service, I expect to be able to remotely lock or unlock doors, control lights and temperature settings, view and monitor my home, or even check camera views to see if the family dogs -- Boston and Colt -- are behaving while we’re away. With the Energy Control management option, I can view a quick snapshot of my home’s energy usage in near-real-time, allowing our family to be more mindful of our carbon-footprint and adjust our habits to reduce consumption—saving us money and helping us be more energy-conscious. I can manage my home essentials from anywhere via smartphone, tablet or PC and, when home, through my TV remote control as well. Just the other day, after racing out the door to work, I had to backtrack down my street to see if I locked my door (I hadn’t). With Home Monitoring and Control, I won’t have to go out of my way again. I can have peace of mind, save money, and conserve energy, all from one convenient application. Living in Brambleton gives me peace of mind. I know my children will have the opportunity to attend the great local schools. Neighbors and fellow Brambletonians look out for each other, and there is a real sense of community connection. There is always something going on for adults or kids, so we never have to look very far for something fun to do. Living here allows me and my family to work, play, and connect. The Bramble10 Anniversary Event a Success
Brambleton celebrated their 10-Year Anniversary with a full day of events on Saturday, November 5, 2011. With a guest DJ appearance by MIX 107.3’s Carson, the event included various concerts, rides, food vendors and an impressive show of fireworks to close out the day. Brambleton Kids Run the Nation Debuts
Brambleton Kids Run the Nation was a huge success this Fall. With nearly 80 registrants, the program clearly met a need for a co-ed non-competitive youth running program in our area. Kids Run the Nation is a running program available through the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). The 8-week program focused on a variety of topics including pacing, nutrition, and goal setting, among others. Kids from first through 8th grade participated in weekly group runs, gradually increasing their distance over the course of the program. More than 10 volunteer coaches and many parents also joined the weekly runs. For many kids, this was their first introduction to running, while others were working on increasing their distance and pace. The program culminated with group participation in a local 5k and fun run for the younger kids. “It was amazing seeing the kids’ progress over the course of the 8 weeks. But, most importantly, the kids seemed to be really enjoying themselves,” said Coach Dario Campolattaro. The program will be held again in the Spring. Falcons Fly Into Field Hockey
This year a new field hockey club was introduced to Briar Woods High School. The team started with only 12 players, but has now grown to be the biggest team in the area and consists of a total of 27 players. In late 2010, we unexpectedly stumbled upon the Beazer model home while looking to buy a home. After a truly informative meeting with the Beazer Sales Representative, Karen, we knew we had found our soon-to-be-built home. Karen was instrumental by being the most courteous and friendly sales rep we had encountered, giving Beazer a step up above other builders. The Site Superintendant, Jason, guided us through the construction process with various milestone meetings and always answered my inquiring emails. Whenever we would walk through the unfinished unit, we noticed Jason’s green spray paint pointing out to the contractors any defects that needed to be addressed. We met with Steven at the Beazer Design Studio Center during early construction phase. He guided us in selecting the best finishing touches to transform the house into our home.

Today, we are almost completely settled-in and enjoying our new home. Verizon FiOS offers blazing internet speeds and an amazing selection of HD content, all included as part of our Brambleton HOA. Our small backyard requires maintenance but it is a tremendous benefit to have an HOA that maintains our lawn care. The Brambleton Town Center has so many amenities that we find we need to travel elsewhere less often. The movie theater is even within walking distance!

Between the beautifully built house and the conveniences offered by Brambleton, we couldn’t be happier! Thank you Beazer and Brambleton!

We were relocating from South Florida to Virginia and were looking for a great place to call home for our family of four. With two small children we wanted a place that would give us instant community and offer a lot for our children as well as us adults (we need fun too)!! Quickly we heard that Loudoun county, and Brambleton specifically, was so wonderful to live in.

After hearing the same community name many times over, we began our home search and purchased a Van Metre home. Our service with Van Metre both before and after the sale was outstanding. The Brambleton office was helpful as well giving us guidance to all the local attractions.

Since moving in we could not be happier! We love our home and this community where everyone welcomed us. We use the local parks and the Town Center frequently - the summer concerts and constant events are so much fun!

We are thrilled with our decision.

Approximately one year ago, my husband got word that he was being transferred from New Jersey to Virginia. In January 2011, we started our house hunting trip. We spent three days looking at pre-existing houses, but couldn't find exactly what we were looking for. Even though I was sure at that time I did not want to build a home, our realtor brought us to several different model homes. When we walked in the Winchester model we fell in love with it. It was absolutely beautiful. It had everything we were looking for. Plus, the Danfield Model has a "Your Home. Your Way" motto so you can build it exactly how you want it.

I was very concerned about building a house in Virginia while still living in NJ. I thought there were so many decisions, so many forms, so many things to do. I wondered how we could do this long distance.... and that's when I met Debby Palladino. She is the Community Sales Manager at Winchester’s Danfield model. She made us feel so comfortable with our decision. She made everything easy for us. Between FedEx, faxes, email and phones we made it work. We did it all in three quick visits to Virginia. She really kept me sane through the whole process. She assured me on a daily basis that everything would work out, and it did!!

We moved into our Winchester home in early August and we LOVE everything about it! Thank you Winchester staff for making this a dream come true!! We love living in Brambleton. We enjoy the community pools and the Town Center!

We were already living in the same zip code, but it just didn't have the same vibe as Brambleton--which is like a little city in the suburbs. We've actually met more people in the month since we moved here than the entire two years in our old neighborhood. We moved from a single family into a townhouse located in the Brownstones at Brambleton. In our old home we had so much unused space like a formal living and dining room and a finished basement. We chose the Miller and Smith Brownstones because they have a great layout, exactly the space we need and extras like as a rooftop terrace with an outdoor fireplace. We can walk to shops, restaurants and Sport and Health Club, and the best part is we don't even have to mow the lawn anymore.

What I like about Miller and Smith is that they take risks and constantly improve their product. The sales people are also homeowners, and they have a vested interest in the homes and the community. During construction of our new home, the superintendent replaced several things that were already installed because the color wasn't quite right or they found a better product. In fact, even after we moved into our home, Miller and Smith came back and changed some additional things because it was better for both the homeowner and the appearance of the neighborhood. Most builders wouldn't have done that.

We have moved around a lot and bought a few new homes, but we are making Brambleton our permanent home. When we think about all the places we could go, we can't imagine living anywhere else.

We were very familiar with Brambleton, especially with the Town Center, as we lived down the road in the Broadlands for the past six years. The Broadlands is a great community, but with the birth of our second child we were in need of more space. So began our search for a single family home. What’s it like being Brambleton’s biggest fan?
It’s a really great honor. After many visits to my brother Bob’s home, I knew this would be the place for me. I spend my days taking advantage of this fantastic community, and of course I adore the people here. I wouldn’t get to be Brambleton’s biggest fan without all of my friends showing me the ropes.

We just moved into the neighborhood. What is there to do?
The options are endless. I recommend spending the last days of summer at the Beacon Crest pool. Because it’s heated, it remains open past Labor Day, and its outdoor kitchen makes it a great venue for a back-to-school cookout. As the weather gets cooler, head on over to the Brambleton Town Center to take in a movie, shopping or dinner at any of the fabulous restaurants.

Other than shopping and restaurants, how do you keep busy?
Brambleton is always hosting special events for the community from charity runs to concerts and festivals there’s never a dull moment. And now we’re just days away from this community’s biggest party of the decade: the Bramble10 Bash to celebrate the 10-year Anniversary! The Homeowner's Association has a wonderful group that helps organize community events and they are always looking for volunteers, so give them a call at 703.542.6263. In 2010 it was the eighth fastest-growing planned community in the U.S. So far this year, bucking current housing trends, over 382 new homes have sold.

As Brambleton celebrates its 10th Anniversary, it’s a good time to pause and reflect. What brings people here? More importantly, what keeps them here? And, what is ahead for this award-winning community?

Beginnings
It all started in 2001 with a group of green-roofed trailers at the corner of Ryan and Belmont Ridge Roads. One hundred homes sold before the first model opened. Those who stepped up to become Brambleton’s pioneer residents had faith the vision presented of a dynamic multi-faceted community would eventually become reality.

“It was flat emptiness, with no model homes,” said David Pavlik, whose wife was expecting their second son at the time. On December 31, 2002, the Pavliks joined twenty other pioneer families outside on a muddy street to herald the New Year. Many of those first-comers, including the Pavliks, are still Brambletonians.

As the community began taking shape, dirt wasn’t hauled away, but was put to good use forming berms to provide pleasing elevation changes to the landscape. Bye-bye flat emptiness!

Michele Kontaxes Naurock recalls her first days, “I was basically surrounded by a big construction zone. I had just turned 30 and purchased my townhouse as a birthday gift to myself. I envisioned the Town Center and daily conveniences, as well as a ten minute commute to my job at AOL. It was amazing to watch the development and eagerly anticipate the next shop or restaurant opening.”

Her original goal was to stay for five years, then move. “Brambleton has really become my home and I can’t imagine leaving now. I got married last year and my husband and I are buying our first single family home . . . in Brambleton!”

Location
Location, location, location. Residents of the community come from all over, eventually settling in Brambleton because of its proximity to everything the metro area has to offer.

Thirty-two miles west of Washington D.C., Brambleton is right in the midst of eastern Loudoun County’s high-tech corridor. Additionally, the close proximity to nature, cultural sites and good schools is a major draw. Within minutes of Brambleton, residents can be dining in fine restaurants, exploring boutiques and big box stores, or catching flights from Dulles International Airport.

Amenities
Brambleton has many of its own perks within. “We’re almost like a country club without the gates,” said Stephanie Lee, Marketing Coordinator for the Brambleton Group. “We’re all about fun.”

Brambleton’s developer, Soave Enterprises, places a high priority on pedestrian-friendly living. A well-planned network of sidewalks and trails enhances the small town atmosphere and makes many day-to-day destinations easily accessible.

While most planned communities wait until 50 percent of housing units are sold to commence with retail construction, Brambleton Town Center began flourishing within four years of the first home sales.

With Harris Teeter, the 38,000 square-foot Sport & Health Club, dining establishments, a 16-screen movie theater (with IMAX on the way) and specialty shops, a true gathering place atmosphere exists. Here is where key celebrations and festivals are held. It’s an old-fashioned village square setting where teens can feel as comfortable as stroller-pushing parents, where retirees can enjoy casual camaraderie and where busy office workers can savor a momentary pause in their day.

Kelly Fallon, a resident since 2005, listed several of the Town Center’s casual restaurants among her favorite places, saying “Yes, it’s true, sometimes you want to go where everyone knows your name.”

Maria and Matthew Hughes moved into their condo four years ago. “I love the walkability of the community,” Maria says. “We can go to Caribou in the morning for coffee, to dinner and a movie in the evening, and to the farmers’ market on Sunday.” She said that the ease of meeting other residents is part of Brambleton’s charm. “Suddenly it becomes so much more than just a place to live.”

Outdoor enthusiasts connect through community garden plots, pools, tennis courts, multi-purpose courts and tot lots sprinkled throughout the community. “Children are always playing outside,” said Dr. Haress Rahim, a resident whose family dental practice is in the Town Center. “It’s a true community.”

And of course, family involvement thrives at each of the three county schools within Brambleton – Legacy Elementary, Creighton’s Corner Elementary and Briar Woods High.

Open space
Brambleton’s developer understood from the beginning that the key to an attractive, welcoming community was restraint – leaving abundant greenery and undeveloped areas where sights and sounds beckon residents to step out and explore.

Take a walk and you’ll invariably come across the soothing sound of water cascading over artfully placed rocks with several water features peppering the landscape. Community ponds offer catch-and-release fishing and attract a variety of wildlife including blue herons. Some areas seem crafted for those who want a slower pace, where shaded meandering paths dotted with benches provide serene contemplative settings. The community’s Legacy Park has a variety of amenities for all ages and is the setting for Brambleton’s annual fall family campout.

As the southern part of Brambleton is developed, additional green space will wind through residential areas, enticing residents to come out and play.

Housing
Traditional colonials, cute European-inspired Tudor cottages, spacious condos and contemporary townhouses are among the wide array of housing available in Brambleton. Six different builders, each with their own architectural styles, combine to ensure a pleasing visual result rather than a cookie-cutter appearance.

Exteriors tout stone, brick, siding, or some combination thereof. Interior styles are tweaked as popular tastes change. Currently, the trend is away from formal living areas toward more open and casual floorplans. Front porches are an integral part of Brambleton’s design – intended to foster neighborliness between residents.

Brambleton offers residents options for upgrading or downsizing as their family grows or needs change, allowing residents to stay within the community and to maintain established relationships while growing new ones

Resident involvement
Karla and Peter Etten moved to Brambleton five years ago because of its “all-in-one” inclusive atmosphere. As parents of a four-year-old, they’ve formed numerous friendships through Bramble Babies – a support group comprised of about 45 families.

Karla says, “The developer is very accommodating and willing to listen. They keep nature front and center.”

As a former master gardener in Fairfax County, Karla puts her talents to work volunteering with Brambleton’s Grounds Committee and bluebird trail started by resident John White several years ago.

White’s family of five, which now includes two teens, moved to Brambleton seven years ago. As an avid gardener, John began posting inquiries on the community’s message board, asking where to buy plants, mulch, etc. That was the beginning of Brambleton’s Garden Club which now hosts several projects a year. They’ve reined in Japanese beetles, started community garden plots, and now oversee activity in 20 bluebird boxes.

Often resident-generated and volunteer-run, Brambleton’s traditions enrich community interaction. An annual community campout brings residents together to share s’mores, entertainment and good conversation under the stars. A July 4th celebration finds the whole community swathed in red, white and blue – enjoying a down home parade, challenging contests, outdoor games, bountiful food and of course, spectacular fireworks. The Youth Fest brings young enthusiasts to the Town Center.

Brambleton is a giving community as evidenced each year by the tens of thousands of dollars raised for local schools and a variety of other worthy charities.

In September 2010, the night before school started, parents wrote supportive messages such as “Have a great year!” in chalk on sidewalks leading to each school. There were smiles from all sides on that first morning’s walk. Sounds like a tradition in the making.

As the banner outside Brambleton’s Welcome Center says, “If you like it dull, you’ll hate it here.”

Technology
Fifty percent of the world’s Internet traffic comes through Loudoun County, so Brambleton – the first community in the nation to include Verizon FiOS TV and Internet as part of its HOA fees – is ideally situated to harness new technologies as they develop. Coming soon is the option of Verizon’s new Home Monitoring and Control program.

Keeping residents abreast of community events is always a challenge to any large community, but Brambleton ensures efficient communication via heavy use of social media. An active community Facebook page provides notices of upcoming activities, new development and projects under consideration.

Posted Friday Flashback photos bring back fond memories for long-time residents while pulling newcomers into the fold on Brambleton’s history, and giggles arise with weekly photo caption contests. Prospective residents can also check out the Facebook page to see what current residents love best about the community.

A password-protected community Intranet spurs communication between residents seeking contractor recommendations, baby-sitting or pet care assistance, or just sharing family news.

Future
What lies ahead for this well landscaped, vibrant, 2,300-acre unincorporated community – now over one-third complete? There are nearly 6,000 housing units still to come, but Soave Real Estate has thought through to the end product, adjusting plans along the way so the solid foundation and embracing atmosphere now present will continue with future development.

“Green Community” status is being sought and a wetlands protection program is underway.

The eventual arrival of Metrorail’s Silver Line to the area will offer a key commuting option. For now, residents have multiple routes to choose from, including Routes 50, 7 and the Dulles Greenway.

Nikki and Josh Flory originally moved to Brambleton in 2003. Friendships and foundations were laid as their family grew, so when a move to Texas was necessary in 2009, the Florys rented their house just in case they decided to return. While in Texas, their children kept asking, “When are we going home?”

Now, the homeschooling family of six is back in Brambleton. Nikki says, “This neighborhood is absolutely perfect for where we are in our lives and, I believe, as we grow and change.”

Michele Kontaxes Naurock says, “I think future growth will only encourage more and more people to move to Brambleton. It’s really beautifully landscaped, all conveniences are at your fingertips and it has a wonderful sense of community! People seem to be flocking to this neighborhood.”

A Brambleton Story - Meet the Ladner/Cleveland Family

"We are very excited to be a part of the Brambleton community. We were very familiar with Brambleton, especially with the Town Center, as we lived down the road in the Broadlands for the past six years. The Broadlands is a great community, but with the birth of our second child we were in need of more space. So began our search for a single family home. We visited most of the new developments between Ashburn and Frederick, MD, where I commute three days a week. We saw many nice houses, but for one reason or another most were not a good fit for us. Truth be told, we were not expecting much the first time we entered the Pulte Homes model that would eventually be our home. However, the interior blew us away as it had everything that we had been looking for with an upstairs layout that is hands-down the best (for us!) that we had seen. Most importantly, for the first time we were not just visiting a nice house but rather a place where we could envision raising our family and making memories...a home.

Yes, we love the house, but the real selling point for us is that it is a great community to raise our family. We were already used to frequenting the Brambleton Town Center, where our gym, a couple of go-to restaurants, coffee shop, favorite movie theater and my son's favorite toy store are located. Now these places are even closer! We have already met many very nice new neighbors. My husband and I have reminisced about the days from our own childhoods when neighbors knew each other and looked out for each other and whole streets would occasionally be blocked off for neighborhood block parties. On Saturday, September 24th, our caches went live in the neighborhood for our 2nd Annual Cacher’s Corner Multi-Cache Event! After the hunt, Cachers enjoyed refreshments, swapped stories and traded coins at the Brambleton Welcome Center. Here are just a few of the comments they left on www.geocaching.com:

I'd never thought about Brambleton much before this event. The layout of the four event caches left and right of Belmont Ridge Road, with the Welcome Center as the meeting place, is perfect for giving a newcomer a tour of the whole area's housing, recreational and shopping offerings. We started down south at Carpool's are Cool and worked out way north. Nicely done -- thanks for putting this event together.

This was a fun event. Tilly the weiner dog and I attended with fredr1c. We found the four new caches, received our geo-coins and then went on to find four more local caches. Luckily the forecast rain held off and it turned out to be quite a nice evening. Thank you for organizing this excellent event. We enjoyed ourselves.

Thank you so much for putting on this event for a second year. To the cacher hiding them: thank you for the fun and to the Brambleton Welcome Center staff and everyone in Brambleton that supports this project you are awesome. We had lots of fun wandering through the area and then came back to pick up the coin after doing a bit of shopping. I was excited to have won a gift card for the shopping area on the big wheel. We turned around and went right out for dinner then. It was great food and we have found a new place we will be comming back to eat again.

An Evening in Vegas: Betting on a Cure a Huge Success!

Another successful evening in Brambleton raising money for a great cause. The Activities Committee and the Brambleton Homeowners Association worked hard all year to pull off a wonderful fun event for the public this past Saturday, September 10th, which included casino games, food and drinks, deejay, poker tournament, raffles, door prizes, and one amazing silent auction. Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2011 Summer Movie Express film festival–the successor to our Free Family Film Festival. Metro Map Survey
Metro is mapping out some big changes. Next summer, the transit agency plans to realign the Yellow, Blue and Orange lines. It is all part of the plan to make way for the new rail line to Dulles. That will require Metro to change its iconic map, including what to name the new rail line. To Metro’s surprise, the designer of the map is suggesting the Dulles rail line be cherry blossom pink, although it has long been referred to as the Silver line.

Regal Fox 16 Stars of Hope Fundraiser Raises $22,903 - This year, the Regal Fox 16 was again proud to participate in Regal Entertainment Group’s Stars of Hope summer charity drive. For ten weeks, they asked their customers for dollar donations to help dozens of worthy charities including The American Red Cross, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, United Way, and The Will Rogers Foundation. Brambleton Bettas Win Divisionals; Sends 38 Swimmers to All Stars - The Brambleton Bettas Swim Team has just completed their best season yet, with a 5-3 record and 1st place win at Divisionals. In addition, the team sent 38 swimmers to All Stars, the most swimmers out of any other team in the Old Dominion Swim League (ODSL) - pretty impressive considering the more difficult cut-times this year. Harry Potter Pandemonium in Brambleton - There was great anticipation Thursday evening, July 14th at the Brambleton Town Center for the appearance of our first Harry Potter Fans to show up for the midnight showing of the final Harry Potter installment. Ten years ago, Brambleton was just breaking ground on a new community; a new way of life; a new way of living in Loudoun County. A hundred homes were sold before the first model was even built. We’ve weathered the roller coaster that is the housing market and have persevered with steady success and periods of record breaking sales. We now have over 3,500 homes in Brambleton and are one of the fastest growing large-scaled communities in the Nation. Brambleton has become the place to be.

Over the last 10 years, Brambleton has become known for our fabulous town center, beautiful landscapes, being connected to cutting edge technology, and of course our fun, ever-growing events. YouthFest 2011 a huge success - On Saturday, June 25th, Loudoun County’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) hosted the 6th Annual YouthFest at the Brambelton Town Center. Kicking off promptly at 3 p.m., the main stage hosted a wide variety of local and national musicians including the headline act “The Maine.”

Brambleton, Virginia, Monday, June 20, 2011 – Brambleton, an award-winning master-planned community located in Loudoun County, Virginia announces today the official launch of its 10 Year Anniversary Campaign designed to celebrate the success of the community through a new branded marketing campaign, a new website, a commemorative Welcome Center display and a series of premier events to celebrate the occasion.

Bands Rock Brambleton In Contest Finale - Nine Loudoun youth bands emerged from their parents' basements Saturday, April 30th, to compete for the top title in the Loudoun County Battle of the Bands and the opportunity to open for the headline act during this year's YouthFest in Brambleton on June 25th. In the end it was Ashburn's Lightspeed Rescue that won top honors after voting by the crowd and a panel of judges. Brambleton Students Earn Top Honors at First Lego League World Festival - Team NX-Treme earned 1st place for mechanical design for their robot at the First Lego League World Festival in St. Louis, MO. The World Festival is regarded as the Olympics of Lego Robotics. This international competition featured 82 of the world’s best teams and ran from April 27- May 1. Creighton’s Corner raises money for Japan quake victims - Students at a Loudoun County elementary school are concerned -- and want to help. Their inspiration is their music teacher. Creighton's Corner elementary school teacher Naoko Yanagawa is from Japan, and her parents live in Osaka. Hearing about the disaster was heartbreaking for her. "I just couldn't believe what I saw," she said. A few held a multi-day bake sale with lemonade, brownies, cupcakes and cookies -- with impressive results. Stone Hill Middle School Becomes 8th LCPS School to “Watch” in the Nation - Eight of Loudoun County Public Schools' 13 middle schools have been designated as a School to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform.
